Aspen Bark - Animal Striping?

I am new to Minnesota, I planted 6 aspens trees last year and something in this past week has stripped off the bark. Please see attached photos. Any ideas on what? Will the trees live? Any info/advice is appreciated. Regards, Fran Fox
