caterpillar on white oak

Asked November 13, 2017, 9:32 PM EST

A large dead white oak was taken down on our church's property. I found a white caterpillar coming out under the bark on one section of the tree. Can you identify it?? I did manage to get a picture and will attach it. Thanks .

Your photo was out of focus but this looks like a long horned beetle larvae.
Borers tend to get into weakened or dying trees. and not the primary reason for decline.
