Are apples bad?

Asked November 6, 2017, 5:58 PM EST

A lot of my apples on the tree have this black smudging on them. Is this mold or some other thing that makes them not suitable for juice extracting/preserving? What would have caused this?

If the apples are still firm, then I believe it is sooty blotch. This is a surface fungi and can be washed or rubbed off. It does not affect the quality of the fruit and they are safe to use.
