Is November a good time to plant bamboo in the Willamette Valley?

Thank you for your question about planting bamboo. In general, perennial plants should be planted in the fall, so they can establish their root systems over the winter, and be ready for growth in the spring. I'm assuming the soil where you anticipate doing so is still workable (you can dig a hole twice as big as the root ball.)

You don't say what type of bamboo you're anticipating planting (and OSU doesn't have a good article on the subject), but here is a link to an Extension article about the pluses and minuses of this plant.

Hope this is helpful. Good luck!
