Can you tee me what this is that is growing by our dead dogwood. It is over two years old now. I haven’t removed it because I’ve never been able to get another dogwood to grow nearby as a replacement. I don’t know whether this thing has a future there

Montgomery County Maryland plant identification bittersweet vine

We can't tell for sure but wonder if this is a Bittersweet vine, most likely Oriental Bittersweet?
They are an invasive that pop up all around. People sometimes makes fall wreaths out of the red, orange and yellow berries, or birds feed on the berries and move it around. It often has a red-tinged root.
If it is acting like a vine, we would remove it.
