Vine identification?

Asked October 21, 2017, 11:23 AM EDT

There's a large amount of this Vine growing along the back side of our property. I am clearing out the beds for the fall. This looks like Virginia Creeper to me, but I thought I'd double check before getting hip deep in it.

Hello,

Yes, this is Virginia Creeper. Be cautious, of course, since poison ivy could be sprouted around or under it. Some gardeners keep towels and rubbing alcohol outside with them to use immediately while working, if the think they have touched it by accident.

The sooner you wash exposed skin the better chance you have of reducing the rash- within 10 minutes or less is ideal. It is always good to wear gloves and long sleeves just in case.
