What kind of spider is this?

Asked October 21, 2017, 12:37 AM EDT

I’m finding these trying to come inside. The first one was almost an inch long body. They are so black I don’t really see any markings, even in the light. A smaller one in my garage in a tub doesn’t reveal much. They flatten their legs like the fish spider is described but I still see no markings even with a flash. What is it? I left them both go a little away from the house.

This looks like a wolf spider and there are many species. The spider is not poisonous and they are predatory and feed on other insects. It was good that you escorted them outdoors to continue their life cycle. See more about spiders http://extension.umd.edu/hgic/insects/predatory-spiders
