Honey Crisp Apple Brown Spots

Asked October 18, 2017, 12:36 PM EDT

I just read a post on your site regarding Honey Crisp Apples with brown spots.. I just threw one in the garbage, then found your site.. I have attached a picture.. What I found to be strange, is there was no apparent damage on the exterior. It was randomly distributed inside the apple, and not on the surface touching the skin.. For the price they charge these days, I could buy lobster. LOL.. Hopefully you can ID..

Best Regards,
Bill

A Univ. of Minnesota Master Gardner gave an answer to a similar question:

common causes of spots that resemble those you mentioned are apple maggot damage and physiological conditions called bitter pit and cork spot.

You may be able to determine which, if any, of these is affecting your apples by visiting the following bulletins and comparing your apples to the photos and descriptions found in the bulletins.
