Is this a coastal black huckleberry? The plants are all over the campground at Bullards Beach State Park.

Thanks for your berry identification question. Although I don't have any way to tell how large these berries are, they do appear to be our native huckleberry, Vaccinium ovatum. I've attached a positively identified one, and both the size (relative to the leaves), leaf structure and color appear to match. They're are some of the smallest of our native berries, taste rather tart, and make great jellies and jams. Enjoy!
