Roses ALMOST destroyed by black spot

Asked October 12, 2017, 11:14 AM EDT

I am going to giving them one more year. Next spring, I will take out the old and put in the new mulch and start spraying immediately upon greening. The question is:

Should I cut the branches down now or wait until the spring and cut them all the way down?

Hello. You do not mention what kind of roses you have but in general it is best to prune when plants are dormant--early spring. If they are old roses there may not be any flowers the first year after pruning. Be sure to pick up and destroy any foliage that falls off or that you prune.
