Chicago Hardy Fig

Asked October 11, 2017, 7:43 AM EDT

Hello, I have a Chicago Hardy Fig tree and I hear that I should store it in somewhere like a garage over the winter since Michigan winter's are too cold for it. My question is when do I move it to a safe area? Do I do it after a frost? Before the first frost? Do I do it after it loses it's leaves? What month? October November or even December?

Thanks!

I cannot give you a specific date because so much depends on the weather. You should wait until most of the leaves are off. I would suggest you let the tree experience a few hard freezes, down to the mid to upper 20s and then move it in sometime in November, when the winter cold has arrived. Try to avoid having it outside when the temperatures are below 20F.
