Forsythia leaves turned reddish brown

Asked October 8, 2017, 4:17 AM EDT

Some of the leaves on my forsythia have turned a reddish brown. They don’t look like they’re dying, but I don’t recall this ever happening before. Is this normal? Thanks, Laura

Thanks for your question about your forsythia. The leaves on your plant look really healthy: no brown spots, no curling or falling off. It could just be your plant's reaction to our weather this year, but no cause for alarm. I found this in an Extension article on forsythias:

"Fall leaf color is usually poor. Occasionally, however, leaves may turn pale yellow to reddish purple in fall."

So, just enjoy!
