What is this grass?

This grass pops up in smallish clumps here and there in teh garden and it seems well-behaved. Can you identify it for me?

We think this is a type of grass called a 'sedge'. It is probably an ornamental which set seed nearby.
A key way to identify sedges is to remember the phrase: "Sedges have edges".
If you roll a sprig between your thumb and forefinger, you can feel that it's bumpy and not round.
