Is it too late to plant grass seed?

Asked October 2, 2017, 8:50 AM EDT

I just had a new patio installed, and it created a lot of new work - there are a lot of areas where the grass has been torn up and topsoil needs to be added and grass seed sown. I live in Baltimore county, and the weather is changing for the cooler pretty quickly. Has the window closed on getting seed in the ground? Thank you.

Best time to plant grass seed is late August through mid October. For full sun to part shade area sow turf type tall fescue grass seed. For shady areas sow fine fescues. http://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/non_HGIC_F...

Take a look at our publication Lawn Establishment and Overseeding for step by step information. See page 8 for Overseeding and Repairing Bare spots. Also, Refer to Care and Maintenance after Seeding http://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/HG102%20La...
