Insect identification

Asked October 2, 2017, 4:56 AM EDT

I found this insect crawling on the side of my bathtub at night. Can you tell me if it's a "kissing bug" or not?

Thank you for sending the picture to us. This insect is NOT a "kissing bug."

According to my books, this is called a "Long Necked Seed Bug," Myodocha serripes. It can be found in gardens, weedy areas, fallow fields, etc. As the name suggests, it feeds on seeds of many plants. They are attracted to lights in the fall, which is probably why you found it inside.

Nothing to worry about. No control is necessary.

Thank you!
