Orange/yellow stuff coating grass

Asked September 24, 2017, 3:30 PM EDT

We have noticed several patches of our grass that have this orange/yellow stuff on it. When I run a piece of grass through my fingers, I can feel texture and the rubbing action smooths it out somewhat. What is it & what should we do about it?

Thanks

This looks like a rust disease on the grass. Rust diseases may infect most of the turfgrasses grown in Maryland. The grass discolors for a while, usually grows out of it, and does not kill it. Keeping the turf mowed usually controls it. No chemical control is recommended. See our website for more information
