Brachymeria wasp

Asked September 23, 2017, 9:23 PM EDT

Recently I started seeing these small insects and managed to capture one which is still alive after 5 days. The Iowa State university's Bugguide helped identify it as a parasitic Brachymeria wasp. What does it eat? Is it a threat to the wood in my house? Should I kill or release the trapped bug?

These are beneficial wasps that eat pollen and nectar. They are parasitic to other types of insects. They are not wood-boring insects and will not cause any damage to the wood of your house. It would be best to release them.
