Circular Growth of Sedum

Asked September 23, 2017, 12:17 PM EDT

I replanted a sedum plant given to me by the local YMCA. For the past 2 years, the sedum grows in a circular pattern and spread out, but nothing grows in the center. Can you help me figure out how to fix this? I would like it to grow straight up and down like the other sedums I have seen, but instead it grows only at the peripherals perimeter of an imaginary circle (please see the attached photo). Nothing grows in the center.

If a sedum is falling over it usually means the clump has gotten too big and needs to be divided. The other cause is the location is too shady. Sedums need full sun and a site that dries out between watering.
