Pumpkin type

Asked September 20, 2017, 6:43 AM EDT

We grew a rogue pumpkin vine this summer, and it produced a pumpkin type we cannot identify. Possibly a Harlequin, but not sure. Can you please help, tell us what kind it is at its culinary uses?

Your volunteer pumpkin is a hybrid of whatever pumpkin family plants were around when last year's original fruit was a flower being pollinated. We don't know what mix of genes are in it. Keep in mind that pumpkins can interbreed with others in their family such as squash or gourds.

Your pumpkin looks similar to the Sweet Dumpling cultivar.
