bats in winter

Asked September 13, 2017, 3:06 PM EDT

Hello! I have just bought this bat house: "OBC Endorsed Triple Chamber Bat House Approved by The Organization for Bat Conservation" I'm concerned that any bats that roost in there this fall will FREEZE this winter (I'm located in Mankato, MN). Should I be concerned? Also, I read somewhere that I should install a mesh screen at the bottom to protect babies from falling out of the house. Is this true? Thanks! Heather

Hi,

You probably will not have bats in your house during the winter as they hibernate in caves and mines in MN. http://www.dnr.state.mn.us/mammals/bats.html

The mesh screen at the bottom sounds like a good idea.
