Asked September 12, 2017, 10:29 AM EDT

Was wondering why the needles are falling off, branches have died yet it has put out new growth. What can I do to save this tree?

Blue spruces are, unfortunately, susceptible to several diseases that cause them to decline: cytospora and rhizosphaeria. There is detailed information about these diseases on the pages linked below.

Fungicides are not effective for treating these problems in mature spruce trees. There is nothing that will help them recover. This area is not quite the ideal habitat for this type of tree, and often the older spruces decline like this, we are sorry to say.
