Cleveland Pear Tree Problem

Asked September 9, 2017, 5:25 PM EDT

My young Cleveland Pear tree has grown ugly brown scabby-looking things on the leaves. The trunk and branches look untouched. What is this? I am in Oakland County

Oakland County Michigan

The pear appears to have a fungal disease called 'Trellis Rust' also known as European Pear Rust. This disease requires two host plants to complete its life cycle. (See the section labeled 'Separation anxiety' in the attached publication.) The following fact sheet gives management options.
