Found 2 clusters of these on a Witch Hazel bush. They had completely eaten the entire limb. Closest thing I found was Yellow necked caterpillar? They did form their bodies into u shaped when I tapped the branch. What do you think?

You are correct. These are Yellownecked caterpillars.

In light infestations, individual branches may be defoliated. Trees defoliated two or more years in a row may suffer serious dieback. The clusters of caterpillars can be manually removed and destroyed or they may be soaked with a spot spray of insecticidal oil.
