Bridal wreath spirea

Asked August 31, 2017, 1:36 PM EDT

My very large Bridal wreath has lost its beautiful fountain shape and arching flow. I'm having trouble finding exact directions to get back its original form. It is an older plant that I would like to keep beautiful. Due to improper pruning I have branches sprouting all over. Hope someone can advise me. Thanks, jan

Bridal wreaths are tricky to prune. Most people just trim the bottom sections of the canes if they get too long. You will now have to wait for the ones that are sticking straight up to get long enough where the weight pulls them downward. You can remove dead wood/branches right down to the ground. Also, they are a spring blooming shrub so any pruning should be done as soon as the blooms fade.
