Wintering of wild Violets

Asked August 31, 2017, 11:21 AM EDT

Do wild violets in my lawn overwinter and grow again from this year's plant? Or does this year's plant die and the new plants next spring will be from seeds that this year's plants threw off?

Both. The violet is a perennial. It propagates from seed and short branching rhizomes. It also has the ability to flower underground.
