Fig fruit

Asked August 27, 2017, 8:56 AM EDT

Fig bush is about 4 years old. Two years ago I got lots of figs. Last year there were immature figs that did not ripen. This year no figs. Suggestions?

Did your fig tree die back to the ground in the winter in the past year or two? If it did, that could be the reason there are no figs developing this year. A fig tree that has died back in the winter can sometimes take 2-3 years to get back to full production. Another possibility (although less likely) might be too much shade. If the tree did overwinter just fine in the past couple winters, we are not sure why it would not produce figs.
