Oak Latex

Asked August 26, 2017, 9:09 AM EDT

Hi, I had a mature oak tree fall due to termite infestation at its base. I burned the termite affected portions, but elsewhere, on cutting, I found, throughout the heart wood, what looks and feels like latex (see attached). Could you please tell me what this is? Is it OK to store this wood in my wood pile or is it infectious to other trees? Thanks.

This is a white fungal rot. It is a natural process that slowly breaks down dead/dying wood.
It is not of concern and there is nothing you need to do.
