Caterpillar infested grey Dogwood bush

Asked August 20, 2017, 7:25 PM EDT

I too had my grey dogwood bush infested with white caterpillars my son removed them and burned them in the firepit. My dogwood is nearly bare. Will these come back next year or kill my bush.I planted this in 2010 When my 17 yr old dog passed away.I would be sad if this bush dies.

It shouldn't be a problem but we are dealing with a living organism and many variables. Defoliation of trees and shrubs at this time of year is less problematic than spring and early summer. Much of the food production has occurred and it will be able to leaf out again next year with the stored energy.

I suppose a problem could occur if it does try to send out new leaves this year.
