Big Bug

My daughter found this bug on her balcony. Yes, that is a quarter next to it. We cannot identify it. Thank you for your help. Sandy Hawke

Your mystery visitor is a Prionus beetle, Prionus californicus. They often show up during late summer and fall when they cling to screens and structures. Their youngsters are grubs that live in the ground and destroy tree roots. The adults don’t damage people, pets or the structures they live in.
