carpenter ants

Asked August 14, 2017, 12:02 AM EDT

I am renovating a small cabin. During demolition of the interior, I found many carpenter ants living in the wall space. Is it sufficient to just clean up the interior, or should I fumigate with an insecticide as well? I plan to remove all drywall and interior walls and replace the insulation.

Sorry for the delayed answer.
Removing all ants and nest materials may be sufficient, but you should investigate how ants got there and take measures to prevent reinfestation. Some application of pesticides may be a good idea. Check with a local pest control company to make sure all local regulations are followed.
