How do I treat root rot?

Asked August 12, 2017, 2:46 PM EDT

I have 3 newly planted aucuba japonica that have root rot. How do I treat it? The plants were all planted in oversized holes with soil from a nursery and a little general organic fertilizer and I've removed all the affected leaves. Thanks! Kathy

Thank you for your shrub question. Not having seen whatever symptoms you have that confirm root rot, I'm afraid my answer is going to be rather general, but I think this Extension article is really thorough about this problem and some others. If you do, in fact, have root rot, there is no treatment.

I hope this is helpful. Good luck!

The leaves have dark black spots, which get rather large (almost 1/2 of leaf surface).

Could you please send a photo or two? Color of spots and how many are important. Thanks!
