Ant hills

I have several ant hills in my front lawn. Why and how do I get rid of them? Thanks!

Ants in general are beneficial and help aerate the soil and feed on pest insects. You are noticing the ant hills because the grass has declined or is thin in the area. You do not need to control them.
Grass can decline due to planting the wrong type of seed, drought, improper management practices, etc. Take the opportunity to reseed in the fall. Turf type tall fescue grows best in full sun to part shade. http://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/HG102%20La...
