Composting Weeds

Asked August 8, 2017, 7:25 AM EDT

Hello Can you compost weeds especially those that have large seed clusters. I have a large stagant composting pile. I compost all during the year and use the compost in my garden. I often wonder if I am simply recycling weed seeds when I compost weeks and later use in my vegetable garden. Thank you

You can cut the seedheads from the top of the plant and compost the stems and leaves. Discard the large seedheads. They will be difficult to compost and you may be spreading weed seeds.
