Picking the flowers

Asked August 6, 2017, 3:10 PM EDT

Someone told me to pick some of the flowers, because too many would make too many pumpkins and the plant wouldn't have the strength to grow them all. I have a beautiful pumpkin plant in a large flower pot. She's very happy and have leaves the size of elephant ears. She's making lots of flowers. Should I pinch some off? Thank Teari

I've not heard that. Perhaps pumpkin growers aiming to win a 'largest pumpkin' contest try to concentrate the plant's energy into only one or a few fruits. Most of us are happy to have as many pumpkins as possible!
