English Ivy

Asked August 4, 2017, 3:58 PM EDT

I have an English Ivy problem. I have tried a Vinegar and Salt mixture but eventually resorted to a rack and shovel. Any ideas on how to kill the roots would be appreciated.

Thanks for your English ivy question. Where is your ivy? Control methods vary depending whether it's in your yard, crawling up a tree, or near a stream. Vinegar and salt doesn't work under any condition; the waxy coating on the leaves just repells it. We urge mechanical methods such as pulling and cutting persistently around tree trunks. But under some conditions, chemicals such as triclopyr and glyphosate may be appropriate. But it depends what other plants you have nearby that you don't want to harm. Can give more specifics with more info. Thanks!
