Japanese beetle

Asked August 4, 2017, 2:21 PM EDT

Hello. This year, my grapevines were nearly wiped out by the Japanese beetles. Any advise on how to prevent/treat the bugs for next year. Anything I should or could spray this fall or winter?

See our website for information on the Japanese beetle and grapes. http://extension.umd.edu/growit/insects-grapes#prevention
There is no spray to prevent this fall or winter.
Next season monitor your crop and sweep them into buckets of soapy water.
If populations are high and feeding is severe, use a labeled organic or chemical insecticide. Avoid Japanese beetle traps because they tend to attract large numbers of beetles, which can lead to additional plant damage.
