Dear Master Gardener, Thank you for reading my question! We have a tree (an alder, I think) on our property that had been wrapped with fencing to keep beavers off. We just realized it outgrew it's fencing this summer, and it's pretty scarred up and hurting, and the flies are all over it. I've heard this damage can kill it, but I'm wondering if you know of a way to save it. I've attached some pics. Thanks again!
This looks pretty bad but I would recommend you contact a certified arborist. It looks like the previous screen completely girdled the tree. Seeing there is growth below, there may be hope.
