Which type of oak tree?
The builder of my home planted this tree in my backyard. I live in Erie (weld county) and the soil conditions are high in clay. I was told Red Oak but I'm guessing that's a general name for many different species. What type of tree is this and what can I do to ensure it not only survives but flourishes.

Thank you for contacting us about your oak tree. You are correct – the term red oak belongs to a group of oaks, and in some areas the term “red oak” just refers to Northern Red Oak, as it does here, and this is what you have.
