Curious little bees

Asked August 2, 2017, 8:57 PM EDT

These bees rest 3-5 at a time afternoons latched onto my ornamental grass. They appear to be fine, just resting. What are they? I guessed they are a type of mason bee.

You sent in a very good photo, and from the underside it looks like it could be a mason bee, but I find it easier to identify bees by looking at the topside of the bee and I cannot see it well enough to positively identify it. Here is an excellent publication that may help you identify your bees. Please scroll down to pages 9 and 10 of the publication for the identification of wild bees found in Minnesota.
