biting insects

Asked August 2, 2017, 10:26 AM EDT

What would be an insect that bites at night in the bed but is not a bedbug? It has no particular preference for area, bites or punctures maybe six to seven spots from feet to groin to back to neck, the affected spots swell and make a noticeably large hard red knot with a single spot in the center that may seep a tiny amount of clear fluid, and the itch is extreme. Some of this reaction seems to be somewhat delayed (a few hours). The swelling goes down slowly and the spot dries slowly with much itching over about 2 weeks. Washed all bedding etc and same thing again about a month later. No visible signs of insects in room.

We don't have an answer for you, and suggest you visit a dermatologist.
Any chance you could have the oil from poison ivy on something that is touching you?

Why have you discounted bedbugs? They are often hard to find and washing sheets is not going to rid you of them.
