Sap dripping from a tree

I have a basswood tree or linden that seems to be dripping asp all over a yard, it just started this year. Should I be concerned if the tree has a disease or a bug infestation

This is not sap, but honeydew, the secretion of aphids. You probably have aphids feeding on your linden. Usually, no treatment is necessary:
