Espalier apple trees

Just purchased young apple tree with plan to espalier. When is the best time to trim top and side branches to begin training tree? My understanding is that I should remove all fruit the first 2 yrs or so. Is this correct?

Hello,

It will take 5-10 years total to get the tree to the shape and form you want and yes, removing the fruit is a good idea. Most of the pruning will take place in early spring prior to budbreak...and the branches must be flexible enough to bend. I trust you bought a tree with a dwarf rootstock?
