Cedar Apple rust

Asked July 24, 2017, 9:38 AM EDT

I live in a patio home community and have a single Jonathon dwarf apple tree which is about 3 years old. It has developed cedar apple rust. What do you suggest for treatment? I live in an area with a LARGE amount of cedar trees! I feel confident that my diagnosis is correct via internet reading and photos. If you would prefer a photo before giving me advise, I can certainly get you one.

Cedar apple rust is certainly treatable but the time to begin spraying is in springtime. I have included a link to two publications to assist you. The first is a simplified spray schedule for apple trees listing disease and insect problems, when to spray to protect them and what choices you have as chemicals to spray.

Simplified spray schedule for apples and pears: http://plantpathology.ca.uky.edu/files/ppfs-fr-t-18.pdf

ID 21 is a disease and insect spray guide with details of disease problems, insect invaders, chemicals including organic choices and what the plants looks like at various times during the crucial spray period: http://www2.ca.uky.edu/agcomm/pubs/id/id21/id21.pdf

Feel free to contact our office if you have other questions.
