tree roots in yard

Asked July 20, 2017, 12:21 AM EDT

We live in a Montrose subdivision. We have two large aspen trees in the front yard. The tree roots are shallow and we have bare spots where the grass won't grow over the roots.
Is there any way to have grass where the tree roots are?
Thanks.

Rather than fighting the roots, you may want to remove the grass where the roots are and apply a wood mulch. We no longer recommend weed fabric as it stops water and air movement.

I would also review your lawn care and make sure you are doing deep, infrequent water vs. frequent light water. The grass will be healthier as well as the trees.

Thanks. We'll try that.
