Tree fungus

Asked July 17, 2017, 11:41 PM EDT

Do extension agents ever come to homes to give advice? I have a tree that has a massive shelf fungus on it that was not present 4 days ago. I want to save the tree if possible but don't know what to do.

Yes extension agents can come to homes to examine problems, identify the cause and offer possible solutions using resources available through the University of Kentucky.
The massive shelf fungus on your tree is the fruiting body, spore producing, of one of several wood rot fungi. it is not curable, It is in the hard wood of the tree and will eventually affect the structural strength of the tree.
