Night time insect noises

Asked July 17, 2017, 10:25 PM EDT

At 10PM on July 17, 2017 what creatures are making the racket in the trees surrounding my home? Our location is at the headwaters of the Rhode River in AA county, across from heavily wooded YMCA Camp Letts. This is unusually noisy. Is it frogs or insects? We've been here 30 years and these sounds are unusual.

There are multiple 'singers' who may be involved, including frogs, toads and the dog day cicadas. The cicadas can be pretty noisy this time of year.
We can't say why they seem louder to you this year.
