pruning Korean lilacs

Asked July 17, 2017, 11:46 AM EDT

How do I go about pruning Korean lilacs? They are way too big and now kinda unsightly. I'd like to prune them now, before the summer is over and understand that I may not have blooms next spring.

Go here to learn how to prune lilacs. A standard lilac is the subject in the video but the pruning method for a Korean lilac is the same, just on a smaller scale. You probably won't need to use a pruning saw.

So, if I prune now, I will not have flowers next year, but will pruning now stunt blooming in following years?

Gradual pruning will not stunt blooming after next spring. https://extension.umd.edu/learn/lilac-pruning
