Re-infestation by powder post beetles 20 years after treatment.

Asked July 16, 2017, 5:13 PM EDT

The basement crawl space under our 150 yr old church was treated for powder post beetles in 1998. We are told we have an infestation now (different company). Could the beetles have started a new infestation? Any way we can be sure?
Thank you for your help.

Please read through our fact sheet: http://extension.umd.edu/sites/extension.umd.edu/files/_images/programs/hgic/Publications/non_HGIC_F... Was old infested wood replaced? If you mark old holes, then you'll know if you are seeing new ones.

If the same conditions remain for the crawl space, there is nothing to stop a new infestation unless the area is still under warranty or retreated regularly. Have 2-3 different pest control companies look at the site and give you opinions (as you would with doctors before surgery!)
