Bark Peeling Off Young Crape Myrtle Tree

Asked July 11, 2017, 10:22 AM EDT

We have two young crape myrtle trees, and they are doing quite well. But we just noticed that a fair amount of bark is peeling off one of them in particular. Is this normal? (We have never had this kind of tree before.) If it's a problem, what should we do? Thank you.

With age, peeling bark is one of the attractive, desireable traits of crapemyrtle that give them multi-season interest. How do the leaves, canopy and flowers look?
If the plant looks well otherwise, we'd think it's normal.
If not, send us some photos, which you can attach to this reply and we'll take a look.
