Overseeding a 25 year old bluegrass lawn

Asked July 7, 2017, 7:00 PM EDT

I can't seem to find details on overseeding my old bluegrass lawn. The lawn is at about 50 percent coverage with bare sand in the remaining areas, weeds are not a problems in the areas of decent bluegrass. I've seen the articles on "renovating" but I'm unsure if I need to kill it all and start over

Hello,
thank you for your question.
I am not sure that the article "renovating" is the one on CSU extension. This link gives information on seeding a lawn, preparing an area for laying sod, matching current seeds to old varieties and other grass options to blue grass.

The areas of bare sand would have to be amended very well before you seeding bluegrass
I hope this helps you make a decision on what is best for you.
